Chinese giant Huawei has launched its Android handset Ideos in India. The Android 2.2 running phone has been released by Aircel and is priced at Rs. 8,499. If you are a postpaid Aircel subscriber, you will be able to use up to 2GB of mobile data every month.

The phone comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA Capacitive touchscreen. The good thing about Ideos is that it comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo) at launch, while competing models like the Samsung Galaxy 5 i5500 or even the Micromax Andro still run Android 2.1 with no guarantee that they’ll ever get updated to 2.2. A worrisome part about this phone is the slow 528 MHz processor. However, we hope the interface is smoother due to Android 2.2′s speed optimizations. Other regular specs include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G. The phone comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The iPhone 3G is the most high-profile touchscreen phone yet in India. Priced at around Rs 35000, the iPhone is capable of working in 3G wireless environment. The 3G touchscreen phone has support for GPS tracking, and supports Microsoft Exchange and the new App Store. And unlike any other touchscreen phone in India, it combines the features of an iPod, a mobile touch screen phone and an internet device.
The Nokia XpressMusic 5800 touch phone works on GPRS EDGE networks, and has bluetooth connectivity. It also has a TV out cable, which means you can play your recorded and saved videos on a TV. The XPress Music 5800 also sports a GPS chip, and assorted systems and Nokia Maps. The inclusion of GPS Maps is a wise idea, since many GPS cellphones available in India are handicapped since the user has to buy map software at additional cost to make use of the functionality. The touch phone comes with an instant messaging client, and supports IMAP, POP, SMTP email protocols. However, WiFi is notably absent in the Nokia XpressMusic 5800.
Samsung Omnia i900 is Samsung’s latest multimedia phone in India, and hopes to grab a share of the growing touchscreen phone market

The NEW iPhone 5 - Coming July 2011

Lots of speculation is going around on the new iPhone 5... in HD!!

Verizon Wireless is currently testing a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 and 5 and Verizon confirms they are making network changes to bring the iphone to their network. The new iPhone 5 is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat on 3g and 4g (no longer restricted to WiFi only), face recognition and extreme downloading. (List of possible features below). Just when you think there is nothing else to come up with, more and more and more technology comes out. And it is on the rise, and not just at Apple, Inc!

This iPhone 5 will have dual core processors and higher and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better "still" images when taking pictures, AND it will make multi-tasking a breeze.

There are a few networks working on building a 4G network. T-mobile would be a likely carrier since they are GSM already. Sprint has a 4G network already... AT&T and Verizon Wireless are in the beginning stages. There are talks of Verizon Wireless getting iPhone sometime in 2010 but it looks like they will get it for sure in 2011 when the new iPhone 5 comes out.

Whether or not it will be 4G will be up to them!... can they build in time? They will definitely have the 3G version of iPhone, but with the new iPhone 5 (4g speeds) coming out, will they compete?! Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T's lagging on app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice and Skype (on 4g network, not Wi-Fi).

AT&T's restrictions have caused the percentage of people that are JailBreaking their iPhones to rise since Jail Breaking usually comes with Cydia which is the app store for jail broken phones. Most of the applications, ringtones, and even iphone themes!...are free with Cydia. Winterboard is part of the download, and it very easily add's the changes to your phone so you dont have to figure how to do it on your own...it is VERY automated.

The Palm Pre on Sprint and HTC EVO (Sprint now offering a 4G network) has made an attempt at being competitive with iPhone and Blackberry...and it seems they are making head way, although with the iPhone 4 released and the iPhone 5 on the way, they are sure to lose. Oh ya, the Blackberry Torch? = Nice try... but that browser is NOT full HTML.

iPhone 5 looks promising in terms of being sleek, packed with new hardware and finally less restrictions. Very exciting.

A few features of iPhone 5:

Thinner! With shiny glass back piece - 9.3 mm thick.

Face Recognition Security

Face Time (Video Chat) access on 3G AND 4G (available currently but only on 3G)

Custom SMS tones

Custom E-mail alerts with ability to assign different tones to each email address

A new, sleeker body design.

OLED screen.

Scratch proof and shatter proof screen

Wireless sync with iTunes

32G (basic) and 64G of memory. You're sure to never run out.

Extended battery life = 14 hours talk time on 3G and 7 hours on 4G. Standby 600 hours.

Hi Definition audio.

Messaging indicator light.

True GPS built in.

15 secret iPhone tips and tricks

Happy New Year! :D

I’ve been using my iPhone 3G for a few months now. Along the way I’ve discovered a few “less-than-obvious” tricks and shortcuts that save me a fair bit of time, and I thought I’d share them. While most of these are in the iPhone User Guide if you dig around, I’d say they’re useful enough to deserve a mention in their own right.

(By the way, most of these tips also work on the iPod touch.)
1. Quickly get to the first Home screen

Say, like me, you’ve gone a bit wild on the App Store and currently have a large number of apps installed. I have 101 apps, which means 7 Home screens to flick through. Your most important apps are on the first screen, right? Say you’re currently on screen 7, and want to get to the first screen. Simply click the Home button to jump there. Nice!
2. Flip between pages by tapping

Many iPhone apps feature a paging system with dots at the bottom of the screen, such as:

* The Home screen
* Safari
* Weather

You probably know that you can flip between pages in these apps by swiping left or right across the screen. As an alternative, you can also tap the areas either side of the row of dots at the bottom of the screen:

(I find that, with a bit of practice, tapping is slightly quicker than swiping, but your mileage may vary.)
3. Instantly access iPod controls from anywhere

You’re working on an email and listening to a podcast when your landline rings. You want to pause the podcast quickly. If you’re using headphones with a pause button then no problem. (If your headphones don’t have a pause button then you can simply pull the headphone jack out to pause, though it’s not a particularly elegant approach!)

Handily, there’s another quick way to pause the track. Just double-click the Home button, and a window pops up with iPod controls, allowing you to pause/play, as well as skip tracks and adjust the iPod volume:

You can also tap the iPod button in the window to go straight to the iPod.

By default, this trick only works if an iPod track is playing. However, you can change the behaviour of the Home button double-click action by going to Settings > General > Home Button:

Choosing Home means that double-clicking has the same effect as single-clicking: it merely takes you to your Home screen. Phone Favorites – the default setting – brings up your favourite contacts for quick dialling. However, if you choose iPod then double-clicking takes you straight to the iPod app, regardless of whether a track is playing.

You can also use the iPod Controls setting to turn off the feature that displays iPod controls when a track is playing.
4. Keyboard trick #1: Quickly type a period and space

When you finish typing a sentence, you usually want to type a period, followed by a space. This is a bit awkward as you have to tap the bottom-left Number key, followed by a period, followed by the space bar. There’s a much quicker way: just double-tap the space bar.

(If this doesn’t seem to work, go to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn the “.” Shortcut option on.)
5. Keyboard trick #2: Quickly type a single number or symbol

The usual way to enter digits or symbols is to tap the Number key, then tap the digits or symbols, then tap the Number key (which now shows ABC) again to return to the regular keyboard.

However, if you only want to type a single digit or symbol then there’s a quicker way. Tap and hold the Number key to bring up the number/symbol keyboard, then drag your finger to the digit or symbol you want to type, and let go. This types the digit or symbol and immediately returns you to ABC mode.
6. Keyboard trick #3: Caps Lock

The iPhone’s keyboard has a Caps Lock mode for typing all-caps words (acronyms and so on), though it’s disabled by default. To turn it on, go to Settings > General > Keyboard, and flick the Enable Caps Lock switch to ON. Now, when using the keyboard, quickly double-tap the Shift key to enable Caps Lock (the Shift key turns blue). Type your capital letters, then tap the Shift key again to turn off Caps Lock.
7. Keyboard trick #4: Hold down keys for more options

Many keys bring up a list of other symbols or options if you tap and hold them for 1 second. For example:

* Hold down E, Y, U, I, O, A, S, L, Z, C, or N to bring up accented letters
* Hold down $ in the number/symbol keyboard to display other currency symbols
* Hold down “ or ‘ in the number/symbol keyboard to access alternative quote characters
* Hold down ? or ! in the number/symbol keyboard to bring up the ¿ or ¡ symbol
* Hold down the .com key when entering Web addresses to bring up options for .net, .edu and .org. (You can also do this trick when entering email addresses in Mail by tapping and holding the . (period) key.)

8. Save drafts in Mail

With the Mac OS X Mail app, it’s easy to save your currently-edited message as a draft by clicking the Save as Draft button in the toolbar.

Saving a draft in the iPhone Mail app is a bit counter-intuitive. First, from the message editing screen, tap the Cancel button. You can then tap Save to save the current message as a draft, or Don’t Save to scrap the message altogether:

9. Jump to the top of the page

Flicking up and down to scroll through a Web page, an email message or a list of messages is fairly quick; however if you’re near the bottom of a long page or list it can take ages to scroll back up to the top. Thankfully there’s a quick way to return to the top: just tap the status bar at the top of the screen:

This works for most screens that involve scrolling.
10. Customize the iPod dock icons

iPhone ships with 5 icons in the iPod’s dock – Playlists, Artists, Songs, Videos and More – for quick access. However, let’s say you hardly ever watch videos on your iPhone, but you do listen to a lot of podcasts. iPhone lets you change the default dock icons, replacing the Videos icon with a Podcasts icon.

To do this, tap the More icon, then tap the Edit button at the top left of the screen. You’ll see a list of all available icons; simply drag an icon onto an existing icon in the dock to replace the icon:

Tap Done when you’re done. Couldn’t be easier! (This trick also works in the YouTube app.)
11. Quickly zoom out in Maps

Pinching to zoom in and out in the Maps app is pretty neat, but can be a bit fiddly if you’re, say, walking along holding your iPhone. You probably know that you can double-tap to zoom in quickly, but how to zoom out quickly? Easy: tap with 2 fingers!
12. Save an image in a web page or email

If you want to keep an image you see in a web page or email message, tap and hold your finger on the image for 1 second to get a Save Image button:

Tap the button to save the image in your Photos library, in the Camera Roll album.
13. Access the scientific calculator

Did you know the iPhone has a scientific calculator as well as the normal calculator? I didn’t, until one day I accidentally rotated my iPhone sideways into landscape orientation while using the calculator:

14. Scroll inside frames

Many web pages contain frames that you can scroll through to view all their content, but Mobile Safari doesn’t give you scrollbars for frames. No problem: Just tap and drag with two fingers inside a frame to scroll the frame.
15. Take screenshots

Finally, ever wondered how all these iPhone screenshots are taken? Simply press the Sleep/Wake button (the button on the top right of the iPhone) and the Home button at the same time, then release. The screen flashes, and your screen shot is stored in your Photos library in the Camera Roll album.

review of the Apple iPad

Let me tell you, the iPad is a killer. Once you own one, you'll never let go. I had mine for just over 3 days and no way I'm letting go of it. In case you have been under a shell and do not know what the Apple iPad is, let me tell you more.

After the success of iPod and iPhone, Apple has come up with the iPad. You can either say the iPad is an oversized iPhone or a smaller Net notebook...depending on how you look it it. In fact, I'll describe it as a cross between an oversized iPhone and a no keyboard Macbook.

I'll describe the iPad closer as being the iPhone than the Macbook. Firstly, the iPad is touch-screen, so it does bear an uncanny resemblance to the iPhone. The screen size is much more generous compared to the iPhone and colour and resolution is simply fantastic.

For those of us who wished that there was a bigger iPhone, this is it. With a more generous screen size, everything looks much bigger now. In addition, for those of us who had problem keying with the iPhone, the 'virtual keyboard' is much more generous now.

What can you use the iPad for? Plenty. Most, if not all iPhone apps will work on it. In addition, there are now iPad apps that are specifically designed to work with the bigger and better resolution screen.

My favourite are the free games available out there; I have downloaded Tap, Tap revolution, Real Solitaire and Touch Hockey and just couldn't put my iPad down. All games play perfectly and respond well to finger touches. A fully charged iPad can run for hours without running low on battery power; a problem that early generation iPods and iPhones had but did not seem to occur to even the first generation of the iPad.

Even if you are not into games, you can use iTunes, iPod, Youtube, Contacts and Calendar apps that come with it. Otherwise, go online and use the App store to download the many free or paid appls available.

The other great thing about iPad is that you purchase cheaply office apps such as Spreadsheet, Word and Presentation software and use the iPad as a office tool. It is indeed a Macbook, iPod and soon, an iPhone all rolled into one one device that is totally wireless, light and mobile. Hook up to a speaker or use a seperate Composite cable and play the iPad directly onto a TV or projector; it's that simple.

What else did I use the iPad for? How about live monitoring of forex exchange, news feed, hotel search, live traffic webcam, voice recorder, job search and many more. There are just so many useful and intuitive appls out there that are free or at only a small fee. It's like carrying a walking encyclopedia, GPS and computer on your hand.

I had my iPad out of the box and it auto-configure itself to my wireless network in less than 20 seconds. How much easier could it get?

Make sure you get a carry case for the iPad so that you do not scratch it. Some models of carry case also act as a 'stand' so that your iPad is prodded up on the table and makes it easier for you to see and type on the iPad.

After lushing so much about the iPad, what do I not like? Well, not much, except the new iPad does not come with a camera or 3G but I'm sure a later model will have all these feature.

Many of the iPad great features are dependent on wifi; forex monitoring, traffic webcam, retaurant locater... so you need to be constantly on the net or you can lose many of the greatest features of the iPad.

But it's not dangerous or harmful for your phone To enable the headset-function, you have to short-circuit the "3" and "4". After a short time there is "Headset" on the display Now, menu 3-6 is now enabled!
To enable the carkit-function you have to short-circuit the "4" and "5". After a short time, "Car" is shown on the display and the menu 3-7 is enabled!! This Trick is for you how want to hear more then your supposed to ! If you short-circuit the left and the right contact with the middle contact ("3", "6" and "9") the Nokia Software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this, just active the "auto call receive" function in the headphone profile and set the ringing volume to "mute" Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Place the phone somewhere stratidic and call your phone! The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are talking about! .....gr8...
